Central Cheerleading Squad

The purpose of Central Middle School's cheerleading squad is to promote school spirit and a positive school climate by participating at athletic events and extra-curricular activities as deemed appropriate by the campus administration and Sponsor. Cheerleaders are expected to be positive role models, serving as middle school ambassadors at school, in the district, and community. In cheer we foster students' desire to learn specific skills in cheer and dance, which include tumbling, learning choreography, a series of jumps (toe touch, herkies, herdlers), skills as a base (picking up girls), a backspot, a flyer, and more!

Cheerleaders perform at 4 pep rallies during the year and cheer at all home football games and basketball games. Cheerleaders also participate in the Christmas Parade for the city. Cheerleaders will have the opportunity to perform with the Weslaco High cheerleaders at their Homecoming pep rally and Homecoming game. They will also be able to perform at a UTPA or Vipers function such as a basketball game. At the end of the year cheerleaders get to take a field trip. If enough money is raised and the cheerleaders attend practices with a professional choreographer, they may participate in a cheerleading competition where they perform a routine with stunts, cheers, tumbling passes, and a dance.

During the summers, cheerleaders are required to attend a UCA summer camp where the girls will learn sidelines and cheers for games, multiple types of dances, stunts, and teamwork. Girls also learn a pom routine taught by a hired choreographer and compete with other squads at camp.

The CMS Cheer Squad is sponsored by Miss Audrey Guerra, 7th grade Science teacher. Miss Guerra has 12 years of cheer experience. She cheered in a private competition squad, obtained gymnastics training, and was a middle and high school cheerleader with captain experience. She has competed in over 6 competions in the valley and in Disney World at Nationals. Miss Guerra continued tumbling her freshman year of college.

Quick Facts:

  • Cheerleading practices are Monday through Thursday 3:30-4:30 PM.
  • Cheerleaders must attend all practices and get picked up on time in front of the school.
  • Cheerleaders do receive demerits if they break any rules which could affect whether they perform at pep rallies and football games.
